Group Therapy
Learning from Each Other
The idea of community and helping one another is central to our program at Eagleton. One way we help our students learn how to move beyond their problems is through group therapy. In these sessions, the boys come to understand that they are not alone in their struggles and they have the opportunity to give and receive support among peers who share their struggles. The groups provide a time and place for students to deal appropriately with their issues within a safe, structured environment. Supplementing the growth that comes from the overall Eagleton experience and from group therapy, we offer individual psycho-therapy to support the boys on their journey. We also offer a number of group therapies designed to help with different challenges. These groups include: Courage to HealCourage to Heal is a year long group that meets weekly. The group meeting is utilized to address verbal, physical, and sexual abuse and the resultant Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Safe OptionsSafe Options is a year long group that meets weekly. This group works with sexually traumatized youth who tend to be sexually reactive. The nature of Safe Options is to teach the students about the cycle of abuse, taking responsibility for it, identifying their triggers, and developing a safety plan to prevent reoccurrence of the abusive behaviors.· Anger Solutions
Anger Solutions Group meets weekly to help students identify the types, levels, and cycles of anger that they are experiencing. The students then learn effective strategies to express their anger in ways that respect themselves and others. Social Skills
Social Skills Group meets once a week and is a time for students to come together and learn how to become more respectful of themselves and each other. The clinician works with the students to understand and practice basic social skills (i.e., how to sit for dinner, how to respectfully talk to one another, how to maintain appropriate boundaries with one another). Social skills Group is intended for our younger students. Many hands-on projects are part of this meeting time. |
