Adventure Based Counseling

Understanding that boys and adolescents are energetic and require a broad and varied recreational and activities program, Eagleton has developed a therapy program of recreation utilizing the interests of the residents and the opportunities our location provides. There are a wide variety of clubs students participate in, staffed and run by the educational and clinical staff. Residents select from a group of clubs suggested by both students and staff. Periodically, clubs change and residents are able to select from a new group of clubs. Current and previous clubs include or have included: chess, model trains, sewing, science, gardening, skiing, poetry, crafts, or music club.

The field trips, recreational activities, and clubs present students with opportunities for learning experiences which also develop interests that otherwise might not be available. Participants in gardening and science groups explore life, the earth and stars, energy, or whatever else the group determines they wish to study. Other clubs explore other areas of interest to the group. The activities provide the opportunity for the children to utilize relationship, team, confidence building, and social skills that are being taught and modeled by staff. Additionally, all activities are designed to be fun.
