Classes are structured overall to have a low student to staff ratio, which provides for individualized instruction by licensed teachers who strive to meet the needs of each student according to an approved Individualized Education Plan.
A student at Eagleton learns that self-confidence is the first step toward academic progress, and he learns to actively participate in his own Individualized Education Plan.
The educational level of the Intensive Program residents ranges from preschool through high school. Academically, the students are from three to six years behind their same age peers. Often these students have had poor school attendance. Intensive remedial education is necessary in the classroom; this works with the behaviors that brought the student to Eagleton School. Related services identified in Individual Education Plans include: Speech and Language Therapy, and Reading Specialists. These services are provided through consultants, with the exception of Reading, which is provided through an on-staff reading specialist.
Responsible school districts are required to be continuously involved in the treatment and progress of the student at Eagleton School. At a minimum, progress reports are written and issued to the school district quarterly. These progress reports include a narrative of the progress made by the student toward meeting the objectives of the current Individual Education Plan. The progress reports also state whether the student has met the objectives during the reporting quarter and whether the student will meet the objectives during the IEP period.
The school district is also required to participate at least yearly in the development of the Individual Education Plan, which is issued by the school district. Participation of the responsible school district is required, regardless of the funding source for the placement. Any participating party may call an IEP and other meetings at any time.
