FamilyThank you to all of the parents, siblings, consultants, and visitors who participated in our 2010 Eagleton School Survey. We have read your questions and suggestions and have done our best to set goals and create solutions. Please look forward to our monthly updates as we will be working throughout the year to address every concern! We appreciate your feedback! Residential

Question: "When is the best time to call and talk to my son?"

Solution: Family may call their son virtually at anytime. However, the recommended times for phone calls are Monday – Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 and weekend hours are 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Suggestion: "I would like there to be more activities on the weekends."

Suggestion: "I would like my son to leave campus more often on the weekends."

Solution: "Currently on the weekends the students participate in many games and activities on and off campus. A schedule of activities has been created by the Residential team and you will now have an opportunity to learn about the timing of these activities on our "Calendar of Events" listed right here on our website and the schedule will also be listed in our monthly newsletter. The students are now also make regular visits into the community to Berkshire Southern Recreation Facility on the weekends to enjoy physical fitness. Every Friday night the students also have "Movie Night" in the gymnasium on the large screen."

 

NAPPI

Suggestion: "Please distribute DVD to parents/guardians who aren't able to attend NAPPI training.

Suggestion: "Can you please create a training for parents/family and their sons to discuss "real" situations that occur?"

"I think NAPPI trainings would be best offered on a weekend instead of a weekday, then we could attend since we live three hours away."

Solution: We are proud to announce that NAPPI Family Training is now being offered to all families once a month on the Sunday of our UniFY weekend. This training will teach parents and family members along with our students how to utilize the NAPPI skills to improve communication for the whole family."

 

Clinical

Suggestion: "If a clinician has difficulty developing a rapport with a student, there should be a mechanism in place that the clinician/student can request a change that would benefit the student."

Suggestion: "A UniFy hand out would be great. Especially to show to siblings before coming to UniFy."

Solution: With the help of a parent and sibling, we are excited to share with all of you that a UniFy hand-out has been created! This handout briefly describes the UniFy weekend and will be given to all prospects and attending families. Suggestion: "UniFy seems better when we can do activities outdoors (weather permitting). Maybe it would be better if broken down in smaller segments of time with some breaks."

Solution: Yes, we do agree that UniFy outdoors is nice in comparison to the winter months. However, we will do our best to keep the family activities fresh and interesting for those cold days. We also will do our best to give breaks as needed but also want to be sure that all of the important information is covered on Saturday and Sunday to ensure the best possible experience."

Suggestion: "I would like to have more of NAPPI covered in UniFy weekends although I know that time is limited."

Admissions:

Suggestion: "Maybe allowing families to stay longer to spend part of the day at the time of admission."

Solution: On the day of arrival, families and students will be greeted by their son's Clinician, Transition Coordinator and the Admissions team. This is an important day for everyone so we will be sure to do our best to make it a smooth and caring process. Every family and every student is different, therefore the amount of time taken for this process varies and ALWAYS keeping the students best interest as the priority. Upon arrival, you can also expect to be given a "Welcome Packet" that includes contact information and basic information about our program so that you may contact us after the day of admission with any questions or concerns.

Suggestion: "Our arrival to Eagleton made us nervous and it felt a bit disorganized. We didn't receive a welcome packet or a list of phone numbers upon arrival. Leaving our son regardless of the process is the hardest thing I've ever had to do."

Solution: A Welcome Packet has been developed is now being handed out to all new families that enter the program. This Welcome Packet includes a greeting letter, contact list, a description of our level system, a UniFy Handout, and brochures from the Great Barrington community.

The Admissions team has also brought in a Transition Coordinator for the day of EVERY intake to ensure a smooth transition into our program.

Suggestion: "I think the transition process needs to be ongoing from the time of admissions. If you know in advance when this will occur, then conference calls with the student, counselor and parents would be beneficial so everyone can be onboard for the transition. i.e. how best to approach child at home, what kind of support services will be needed at home, frequency/need for ongoing counseling support, etc."

Solution: "Communication between Eagleton School and the outside agency case worker will improve at the time of departure to ensure that students that are leaving are aware of the resources that they will have available to them in their new community. This will be part of the "Aftercare Packet/Discharge Plan which will be implemented and sustained by our Admissions team in cooperation with each individual agency."

Suggestion: "I would like it if my son had gym more than once a week."

Solution: Physical Education is offered EVERY week day during the school day to ensure that all students receive daily exercise. In addition to physical education, students are able to exercise on the weekends and during club times when extra physical fitness activities are offered.

Suggestion: "Anderson Cooper and Ellen DeGeneras have a great show on "Bullying. It would be great to show the kids."

Solution: Ellen and Anderson Cooper's "Weighing in on Bullying" was presented at the January 11th Anti-Bullying All School Assembly. This assembly also included a list of panel speakers that consist of two students (Matt K. and Josh R.), a NAPPI Trainer/Staff member (Mike Adams) and an our school attorney (Ed McCormick).

Eagleton School Directors and NAPPI International are working everyday to improve the overall facility and the quality of care at Eagleton School. Currently, Eagleton is working to constantly improve the hiring process and evaluation process to ensure that we have the best people working with your children.
