Student Poetry at Eagleton School
Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD), Asperger's Syndrome, and Autism affects a person's ability to communicate. People with these disabilities can find it a real challenge to live in today's fast-paced, highly social society, where everyone is expected to move at the speed of light. At Eagleton School, we provide our students opportunities that vary as a means for them to express themselves in a variety of ways in order for them to have a voice and be heard.
One recent initiative encouraged the students to participate in a series of three works of self expression. The teachers and residential workers took time in the classroom and on the residence and encouraged the students to draw, paint, and write. The challenge was an optional addition to class work, but participation was nearly 100%. Poems, essays, and beautiful drawings are now presented every Friday during lunch and are hung on the walls to celebrate their works of self-expression. We are very proud of the insightful and interesting submissions we received, and we are pleased to showcase some of the student's work for you here:
Thanks to Eagleton
By: Shiquan
I was the kind of kid that punched holes in the walls
Never cared about who stands or who falls
Got restrained a lot, would run without thought
But, two staff really helped me
Their names are Tammy and Shirley
They helped me through struggles and now I'm on level three
Now I can go to Six Flags and beyond this I can see
My future with my family
Thanks to Eagleton
For all you've done for me
My Life at Eagleton
By Nick H.
In the dorms at times it's warm
sometimes it's cold.
Some kids get bold and out of place
and in my face.
In school we act like fools
And do whatever we like to do.
In the gym we play to win
And if we don't get made and try again.
In Upper 23 I just try to be me and do what I do
So I can be free.
At Eagleton, my time will come.
That's when I'll be a brightening influence on the future of Eagleton.

Student Art work

Eagleton School recently exhibited at the Independent Education Consultants Association this past month at the National Conference in San Francisco. Aside from promoting Eagleton School at the exhibit, our program also participated in a Silent Auction that featured student artwork along with twelve other Northeastern therapeutic schools and programs. The proceeds from the auction will benefit the IECA Foundation which was founded in 1996. The mission of the foundation is to create, support, and empower programs that have the greatest impact on students and their educational environment.

Eagleton School was proud to present and sell eight pieces of student art at this event. You can see all the Eagleton artwork that was included in the show on our website. We would also like to thank Max, Jake, Matt K., Amy, and all the students at Eagleton who participated in this exciting event.
